Michael served in the Confederate Army and lost an arm. He lived in or around Colfax. This family lived at Garden Valley, Smith County, Texas, USA in the 1870 Census. Michael is buried at Waco.

Note: Confederate soldier, enlisted Feb 1862 from Brundidge, Ala at Pensacola, Fla, in Co E, 1st Alabama Infantry. Captured at Port Hudson,LA and again at Island #10, Missouri, USA. Lost an arm as a result of an injury during the Battle of Atlanta in July 1864. Went back into service as a Corporal in Nov 1864 until close of war.[a17853.ged]

1. Born abt 1786 in Edgefield District, SC in what is now Barnwell County, SC
This date is figured from census data and his War of 1812 record.
1814, Oct 28 to Dec 1 Enlisted in Juhan’s Battalion SC Militia as a private.

2.1820 census in Barnwell Co., SC he is listed with wife and 2 children

3. 1830 Newberry Co., SC he is listed with his wife and one daughter and one son.
Arnold is the only Peacock known to have moved to Newberry County.

4. Land and deed records found in Pike Co. Pike Co. Historical Society p9, an Everitt McLendon of Monticello, Inventory of personal assets made August 1840 lists A. Peacock in list of accounts in the stud book of 1838, as owing $10.

5. 1840 Pike Co., AL census is listed with wife 2 daughters and 2 sons

6 1844, 27th day of March, Pike County, AL deed giving to his son “and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I bear and have for my beloved son John Peacock the following described Sorrel Mare Colt about one year old with a star in her face.

7. 1850 Pike County, AL census is listed with wife Sinthy 48, Martha 28, Sevesta 24, John 16, Make (Mike) 13, Sinthy 9, Elisabeth 7, Sanford 2 months. (Elizabeth and Sanford are not believed to be Arnold’s children)

8. 1851, 14 July, age 65 Applied for Bounty Land based on war service of 3 months, and he said he received a written certificate of discharge but had since lost it.

9. 1855. May 7th, Arnold Peacock filed an application for “additional Bounty Land”. He also declares that he has received a warrant for Bounty Land, viz No. 68808 for 40 acres, which he has since legally disposed of “by sale to one Wm. M. Lane” and cannot now return”.

10. Land owned by Arnold was SE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 17-Township 8-Range 22. It was adjoining the 40 acres of his son in law, Isaac Chappell Boutwell which was SW 1/4 of NE 1/4 of Section 17-Township 9-Range 22.

11. Not in 1860 Census but found in Agricultural census

12. 1862, August 16th, Arnold Peacock was issued a license to marry Mary Howard. Washington Peacock 1801-1882, living at Covington Co, AL signed a $200 marriage bond for Arnold Peacock & Mary Howard. No further records have been found on Arnold Peacock and no date of death for him or for Mary has been found.
