WILL OF THOMAS COSEN 1629
Archdeaconry of Sudbury #2 Jeremy Index 338R(W)
Thomas Cosens (X) the elder of Whatfield, husbandman
I bequeath to my wife Katherine for life all my moveable good, corn and cattle. After my decease I give my younger son Thomas a cupboard standing in the chamber where I usually lie, and the best bedstead with a flock bed on it, a feather and flock transome, 2 feather pillows, a birded coverlet, 2 blankets, a pair of the best sheets and a stained cloth over the bed.
All the rest of my goods, corn and cattle are to be divided between my two sons Robert and Thomas after my wife's decease.
My copyhold house and land, which I hold of the manor of Barrardes in Whatfield, my youngest son Thomas is to take up at the next court after both I and my wife have deceased, on condition he pays my eldest son £40 on three consecutive Michaelmas days in the south porch of Whatfield church. If Thomas defaults on payments, the property passes to Robert.
From the death of the longest liver of myself and my wife until the following Michaelmas my two sons are to share the profits of my house and land, and then for one whole year Robert is to hold the property paying 50s to Thomas.
Ex'trix: Wife.
Witnesses: George CARTER, William GRYMWOOD.
