Obituary

Paul Thomas "Sonny" Green, 70, was born February 10, 1942 and passed away at the Dallas VA Hospital on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 2:30pm. Sonny loved golf, woodworking, and working on TV and VCR's. He was a barber and owned several shops. He also served his country proudly in the US Navy, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Sonny was preceded in death by parents, Paul and Bertha Green; and his son, Monte Green. He is survived by Frances Green; children, Eric (Joni) Green, Laura (Scott) Graham; brothers, Rev. Eugene (Nancy) Green and Steve (Alicia) Green; grandchildren, Holly Green, Hailey Graham, Logan Green, Alissa Graham; and one great grandchild, Faith Green.
The family wishes to thank all of the doctors and nurses in the cardiac unit, and the CCU and MICU units on the 5th floor for such loving care for the 4 months he was there.

Even though the Texas Death record for Obed lists his birth as October 1898 the 1900 census does list his age as 8 months in June 1900.

Steele, Mo. - Funeral services were held last Friday, May 1, at 3 p.m. for Walter T. Bailey, from the Methodist church. Rites were conducted by the Reverend Howard Conner.
Mr. Bailey was 81 years old and his death late Wednesday followed a stroke suffered April 20.
He was born near Caruthersville and came to the homestead one mile southeast of Steele with his parents when a small child.
He had the unusual record of never having drunk a cup of coffee nor smoked a cigar or cigarette in his life.
Until his health broke several years ago he was active in farming and in church and community affairs.
He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Mille McVoy, also a life long resident of Pemiscot county. They celebrated their fifieth wedding anniversary in 1951.
Also surviving are four sons, Floyd of Tampa, Fla., Lester of Atlanta, Ga., Oscar of Dallas, Texas and Elmo of Los Angeles, Calif. Four grandchildren and four great grandhildren survive.
Interment was in Mt. Zion cemetery with the German Funeral Home of Steele in charge of arrangements.

WALTER BAILEY PROMINENT RETIRED FARMER DIES
Walter T. Bailey, 81, prominent retired farmer, died at his home near Steele, April 27, only six days after his best friend, Marvin Harper died suddenly of a heart attack. Mr. Bailey had lived here all of his life and he and his family had done much for the development of this community.
Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at three o'clock at Steele Methodist Church. The pastor, Rev. Howard Conner officiated, assisted by Rev. James McCrary, pastor of Steele Baptist Church. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with German Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
Honorary pallbearers were R.E.L. Smith, Sam Hamra, Virgil Williams, P.G. Morgan, Ralph Rushing, Leyon Earls and Bert Poteet.
Active pallbearers were O.V. Wells, Floyd Smith, Jack Hatley, Lemond Thompson, E.S. Workman and Thelbert Bishop.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Millie Bailey, Steele; four sons, Oscar Bailey, Dallas, Texas, Floyd A., Tampa, Florida, Lester, Atlanta, Georgia, and Elmo, Los Angeles, California; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, 1 niece, Buetta Hayes; and two nephews, J.B. and Tommie German.

Lester V. Bailey, formerly of Steele, died Tuesday night at the St. Joseph Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia following surgery.
Mr. Bailey was Chief National Bank Examiner of the Sixth Reserve District, a position he had held for the past four years. His headquarters were at Atlanta.
A son of the late Walter Bailey, he started his banking career at the Bank of Steele and was a dealer here for the Ford Agency. He was 56 years of age.
Funeral services will be held at the Steele Methodist Church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Roy Devan, pastor and Rev. James F. McCrary, pastor of the Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery with the German Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Arline Bailey; a daughter, Mrs. Janice Horton, both of Atlanta; his mother, Mrs. W.T. Bailey of Steele; three brothers, Oscar Bailey of Dallas, Texas, Elmo Bailey of Los Angeles, California, and Floyd Bailey of Tampa, Florida.
