Burl F. Grubbs, 87, of Stigler, Oklahoma, passed away January 12, 2005, in Stigler. He was born December 9, 1917, in Chambers, Oklahoma, to Frank and Ossie Barnett Grubbs. He grew up in Chambers and McAlester, Oklahoma, where he graduated high school in the mid-1930s. He continued his education at Eastern State College in Wilburton, Oklahoma. He joined the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II. He began a career with Public Service Company in 1946. Mr. Grubbs married Gwen Burns on June 5, 1959, in McAlester. They made their home in Stigler in 1965, when he was transferred to manage the PSO office. He retired as manager in 1978 after 32 years with the company. He enjoyed his retirement with camping, fishing and sightseeing. He was a longtime member of the Stigler First United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. He was also a member of the Stigler Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Cary Grant Grubbs and Terry Grubbs; one granddaughter, Allison Grubbs; two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Gwen, of the home; two daughters, Mary Beth Hammock and husband, Archie, of Pryor, Oklahoma, and Pat Nichols and husband, Court, of Allen, Texas; three sons, Roger Grubbs of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Rick Grubbs and wife, Elaine, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Tim Grubbs and wife, Patty, of Buford, Georgia; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Grubbs of Daytona Beach, Florida; three sisters, Marie Standridge of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Nina Williams of McAlester and Joy Dillon of Savanna, Oklahoma; one brother-in-law, Dude Lindley of McAlester; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral record lists him as Indian, born in Oklahoma. It also states he was born Oct. 10, 1854 and died Feb. 5, 1932. He was a widow when he died.

He was the son of Curtis and Elizabeth "Betsy" Grubbs and married Elisa Burke and Annie Jefferson. He and Eliza's children were John, Eli, Mary Victoria, Robert, Ben Jr., Addie, Willie, Frank and Minnie.

Extracted from the book entitled 'Constitution and Laws of the Choctaw Nation', pages 385 and 385.

AN ACT entitled an act legalizing the heirs of Curtis Grubbs and Elizabeth McLaughlin.

SEC. 1.-Be it enacted by the General Council of the Choctaw Nation assembled, That the children of Curtis Grubbs and Elizabeth McLaughlin are hereby rendered and made legal and legitimate children of the said parties in as full and efficient manner as if the same had been legal wedlock.

SEC. 2.-Be it further enacted, That said children- Mary Jane, Benjamin Forbis and Robert Grubbs, the issue of Curtis Grubbs and Elizabeth McLaughlin-are hereby rendered capable in law to inherit, take and receive any property or profit that they might or could have done were they born in legal wedlock.

SEC. 3.-Be it further enacted, That this act take effect, and be in force from and after its passage.

Vincent "Cappy" Capuano Sr.
LIVINGSTON - Graveside services for Vincent Aloi "Cappy" Capuano Sr., 77, were held Monday, March 3, 2003, from Camp Ruby Cemetery, with Lindell Mitchell officiating. Military honors were provided by the VFW Post 8568 Honor Guard. Mr. Capuano died Friday, Feb. 28, at his residence in Livingston. He was born July 26, 1925 in Shreveport, La., the son of Joseph and Sidonia Aloi Capuano. Mr. Capuano was a member of the Church of Christ in Livingston and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Capuano; father, Joseph Frank Capuano; mother, Sidonia Angeline Aloi Capuano and brothers, Joe Capuano, Frank Capuano, Johnny Capuano and Nick Capuano. Survivors include his daughter, Mickey Bowen of Livingston; sons and daughters-in-law, Vincent and Glenda Capuano Jr. of Houston and Joseph and Carolyn Capuano of Smithville, Okla.; granddaughters, Kimberly Long, Cari Capuano and Jennifer Wagner; grandsons, Michael Capuano, Joshua Capuano and Steven Capuano; sisters, Corrine Williams and Rosalie Sanchez, both of Galveston; brother, Carl Capuano of Mississippi; three great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Wayne and Wynona Bass and family, Gerald and Susie Boone and family, "Yankie" Tom Kline and Jim Miller and family. Cochran Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
